Presentations and discussions on the work of different researchers in Latin America and what they see as current and emerging research priorities that are increasingly being addressed in different countries, institutions in Latin America. Topics include:

• Urbanization in the Western Amazon, and its links to extractive industries, geopolitics, and poverty. The presentation will focus on the role of urbanization in the emergence of infectious diseases, deforestation and climate change.
• Mapping out the origin of neighborhoods in Panama City (informal, formal or consisting of a housing government project). This presentation will illustrate the level of social exclusion of the formal housing market.
• Massive open online course on global changes that influence both natural systems and human wellbeing in Latin America, developed by the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI).
• Other key current and emerging research priorities in Latin America : Health and sustainability, Quality of urban life, Security and social justice, Local government responsiveness and accountability.
